Cleveland National Forest

The Cleveland National Forest is a very special place in southern California. Haven for wildlife and plants that at one time covered most of southern California, this national forest has become an important preserve for many endangered species. Wildflowers cover the hills and meadows in late spring and early summer. The mountains provide beautiful views of the desert and challenging hiking. Campers come out to enjoy the diverse wildlife, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails.

American Land & Leisure runs 2 facilities in the Cleveland National Forest.

Laguna Campground is located Located 50 miles east of San Diego at an elevation of 5600 feet. Set in an oak and pine grove, the campground has 101 campsites and an amphitheater. Campers come here to hike the Laguna Meadow Trail System, mountain bike and ride horses. There are special events at the amphitheater on Saturday nights, and children's programs Saturday during the day.

To get there from San Diego, take I-8 to Sunrise Highway Exit. Go approximately 13 miles to Laguna/El Prado Campground, just beyond the 26 mile marker.

Amenities include paved roads, flush toilets, showers, telephone service, handicap accessible sites and restrooms, drinking water, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Check out time is 1 p.m. The campground is open year round.

Burnt Rancheria Campground is located 50 miles east of San Diego, at an elevation of 6000 feet. Situated in an open oak grove with spectacular desert views, this campground has 110 campsites and an amphitheatre. Campers come here to hike and enjoy the wildlife and the view.

To get there from San Diego take I-8 East to the Sunrise Exit. Get off and go approximately 11 miles to Milepost 23. The entrance is just past this mile marker.

Amenities include paved roads, drinking water, flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, handicap accessible sites and bathrooms, fire rings, and telephone service.

Fees are $17 /night for a single site with up to 8 people and 2 vehicles. A $5 extra vehicle fee will be charged for any vehicle above 2. All vehicles must fit in the spurs.

Check out time is 1 p.m. This area frequently has fire restrictions in the summer. The campground is open from the end of May to late September.
