Tahoe - French Meadows

Straddling the north central Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Tahoe National Forest stretches from the "golden foothills" in the West to the rugged crest of the mountain range in the East. Criss-crossed by rivers and dotted by beautiful lakes, the Tahoe is known for its beauty and rustic charm. The Tahoe is also home to more than 800 miles of trails for hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers and equestrians. It's known for it's downhill and cross country skiing opportunities, panoramic views, and intriguing history.

American Land & Leisure currently runs two facilities in the French Meadows Area.

French Meadows Campground is located 33 miles from Foresthill at an elevation of 5300 feet. Set in a red fir and pine forest on the French Meadows Reservoir, this campground has 75 single sites. Campers come here to fish, boat, swim, hike, and enjoy the beauty and fresh air. This is a developed campground with flush toilets. Water hookups are available to the host. The area managers for the French Meadows region care for this campground. The campground opens when the snows melt, usually in June, and closes in October.

Lewis Campground is located 35 miles from Foresthill at an elevation of 5300 feet. This campground is also on the French Meadows Reservoir, set in a ponderosa and fir forest. Campers come here to fish, hike, boat, swim, and generally enjoy the peace and quiet. This is a developed campground with 40 single sites and flush toilets. Water hookups are available to the hosts. Hours are 30 hours per week per couple during the regular season and 40 hours per week per couple during the peak season. The campground opens when the snow melts, usually in June, and closes in October.
