Eldorado - Georgetown

If you take Highway 50 east out of Placerville, you're driving through the Eldorado National Forest. The area was originally settled during the 1849 gold rush by miners who named it "The Land of Gold". Although people don't go there seeking their fortune anymore, there are still plenty of reasons to come. Today the forest has more than 400 miles of hiking trails, two ski resorts, lakes for fishing, swimming and boating. Campers come from all over the country to enjoy the beautiful rivers and reservoirs.

Stumpy Meadows Campground is located about 17 miles east of Georgetown on Wentworth Springs Road (Route 63), next to the clear, cold waters of the Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. Situated in a conifer forest, with access to bike trails and great Rainbow and German Brown Trout fishing, Stumpy Meadows has 38 single and 2 double camp sites. The facility also includes a boat ramp and picnic area. Campers come here to fish, boat, and swim in the reservoir, hike and mountain bike on the many local trails, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and many camping sites large enough for an RV or trailer. Firewood is sold on site.

Fees are $17 for a single site, $34 for a double site, and $6 for picnicking or day use. Extra Vehicles are charged $6 /day, and each pet has an additional $2 /day fee. There is a dump site for RV's nearby that can be used for a $6 fee. Single sites are limited to 6 people and 2 vehicles each. Double sites are limited to 12 people and 4 vehicles each.
