Bowman Bridge Campground is located about 5 miles west of
Baldwin on the Pere Marquette River. Sportsmen get enthusiastic when you ask them about the Pere Marquette.
Their eyes light up as they wax eloquent over 30 pound Steelhead and King Salmon. They’ll tell you
about catching their limit of brown and rainbow trout from the river’s crystal clear waters. They’ll talk
about how much they enjoy just being around the river; what beautiful country it is, how clear and clean the
air is, and how the fishing is always great. And for once, they won’t be exaggerating.
The Pere Marquette, a body of water so beautiful it has been classified as a National Scenic River and a
State Natural River, is the perfect place for a quiet little campground. Bowman's boasts a boat launch
into the river, along with 18 single, 2 double and 4 group campsites. The North Country National Scenic
Hiking Trail has a trailhead here, and guides and boats can be rented in Baldwin.
The fishing season runs year round. King Salmon run the river from mid-August to late October. Steelhead
show up during September, and stay all winter long. Steelhead fishing stays good as long as May, with runs
in the fall and spring. Brown and Rainbow Trout spawn and run the river from May to late August. No matter
the time of year, the fishing is good at Bowman’s Bridge Campground.
To get there from Baldwin, take 7th street West 5 blocks to Cherry Street. Turn left and go 1 1/2 blocks
to 52nd street (Carr RD.). Hang a right and continue on 4 miles to the campground.
Amenities available at the campground include vault toilets, pressurized water, paved roads, picnic
tables, and fire rings. Firewood is sold on site.

mid-October. |
