Tillicum is a year-round campground overlooking the beach. It is very popular with travelers and locals alike.
One host couple cares for Tillicum from a FHU site that is sheltered from the ocean breezes. The Area Managers also live in Tillicum. The Area Manager's office has a dedicated fax line for receiving reservations and a telephone land-line for management and customer service. The Area Manager may provide the host with a cordless phone to help with customer service calls. There are 3 flush restrooms, 60 campsites and a Day Use Area. About 35 sites are reservable, others are first-come-first-served. Depending on additional staffing, duties may include mowing and trimming. The couple should be physically fit to work here.
Our responsibilities end at the bottom of the 2 stairways to the beach. The biggest customer challenge at Tillicum is their jockeying for the beachfront sites. We call it the Tillicum Shuffle. If you are a people-person, you'll be able to help the campers have a good time without letting them drive you insane.
Tillicum is about 4 miles south of Waldport where you can find propane, fuel, groceries, restaurants and access to fishing/crabbing in the Alsea Bay. The closest Walmart is about 25 minutes to the north in Newport. About 4 miles to the south is the quaint little town of Yachats where you'll find fine dining and gift shops. Farmer's markets are open weekly in both towns during the summer. The Cape Perpetua Scenic Area is just another 2 miles south.
