George Washington and Jefferson National Forest
Warm Springs & James River Ranger District
Warm Springs Ranger District is nestled in the scenic Allegheny Mountains. Some of the best trout streams in Virginia run through this area of the forest and some of these streams feed into Lake Moomaw. Lake Moomaw offers camping, boating, water skiing and swimming, in addition to fishing. The District also offers over 120 miles of trails to enjoy on horseback or on foot.
The campground has a mix of sunny and shaded campsites. A unique geological feature creates a duct that blows air out of the rocks at a constant 58 degrees, which may feel warm or cool depending on the season. Direct access to trails leading to swimming holes, and a stream stocked with trout are a few of the many reasons to visit this campground.
Enjoy the laid back and slower pace of this rustic style campground set amongst scattered trees and open areas. This angler paradise provides plentiful shoreline fishing and lakeside camping opportunities.
Bolar Mountain Recreation Area
There are 4 campgrounds within the Bolar Mountain Recreation Area: Campground #1, Campground #2, Campground #3 and Sugar Ridge Campground.
Those who enjoy the solitude of an isolated and remote location will be drawn to Greenwood Point Campground. With no road access, the adventure is just getting there! Strap on that pack and take the 3.3 mile hike, or paddle a canoe directly to the shores of the campground.
This campground is set atop a wooded ridge at the southern end of Lake Moomaw. 55 campsites, showers, flush toilets and a dump station are among the many conveniences in this beautiful campground.
