Spruces Campground, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah

Spruces Campground

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest \ Salt Lake Ranger District

At 6500' elevation it is hard to believe that the Salt Lake City metropolitan area is just 20 minutes below.  Spruces is an amazing retreat from the valley heat; shaded by huge pines and quaking aspen.  Kick back and relax to the sound of Big Cottonwood Creek through the canyon.

The creek and canyon are part of a protected watershed for the Salt Lake City water supply.  No domesticated animals are allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon without a special permit.  So you'll want to leave your pets at home for this camping trip as the fines are steep.  Wading and playing in the creek are also not permitted.

Moose, chipmunks, racoons and beaver are the popular wildlife to enjoy in the campground.  Eagles, goshawks and owls are also favorites.  Sometimes the beaver surprise us with a new dam in the morning.

Spruces Campground also has a few group areas for overnight camping and several for group picnics; including large grassy areas for a ball game or set up for a wedding.  What a beautiful setting for your wedding, reunion or company retreat.  You can reserve group sites for up to a year in advance.  For reservations go to Recreation.gov \ Spurces or call 1-877-444-6777.
