Brainard Lake Recreation Area

At 10,300 feet elevation the Brainard Lake Recreation Area gives you access to the top of the Rocky Mountains.  Whether its playing in the lake, hiking, camping or just enjoying the scenery and wildlife, you can find it all in this recreation area near Ward, Colorado.  Plan on taking it slow to climb this elevation from Boulder so you don't overheat your RV.

There are various routes from Boulder to Brainard Lake.  Always check local road closures and route recommendations on the Forest Service website.

Within the recreation area Pawnee Campground has newer restrooms, paved roads, graveled campsites with picnic tables and fire rings.  It has 39 campsites with a mix of back-in and pull-through sites and most have parking spaces of 40 feet or longer.  There are no electrical hook-ups, dump stations, or showers.   Reservations can be made, for certain campsites, up to 160 days and at least 4 days in advance of your arrival date.  Make your reservations here: Recreation.gov
