Soapstone, Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, Utah - Virtual Tour

Soapstone Campground

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest \ Kamas Ranger District

At and elevation of 8,200 feet Soapstone Campground is set in a stunning ponderosa pine, fir and aspen forest.  Wind through the Uinta Mountains from Kamas, UT, for about 16 miles on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway to get there.  The Lower Provo River skirts the campground providing fishing access.  Campers enjoy hiking the many trails in the area.  Many trails for biking, OHV and horseback riding crisscross the Soapstone Basin area.  No horses are allowed in the campground and OHV's must remain on trailers in the campground.

Soapstone generally opens the 3rd week in May, depending on the spring snow melt, and remains open through Labor Day.  About half the sites are first-come-first-served throughout the summer and others may be reserved at least 4 days in advance of your arrival.

Picnic tables, fire ring, vault toilets, drinking water and garbage dumpsters are provided.  Enjoy our virtual tour of Soapstone below and read about more camping along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway here:  Kamas Ranger District
